Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
The short version
We don't collect your data. There are no servers, no analytics, no cookies, no tracking. We genuinely have no idea who you are or how you use the app.
Camera
Recipe Folio asks for camera access to photograph recipes. That's the only reason. Photos are processed on your device for text recognition and are never uploaded anywhere.
Where your recipes live
On your phone. All recipes, categories, and preferences are stored locally using Core Data. Nothing goes to the cloud. There's no sync, no backup service, no server we maintain.
On-device processing
On newer iPhones (15 Pro and up), Recipe Folio uses Apple Intelligence to format recipes. This happens entirely on your device. Nothing is sent to Apple or anyone else.
OpenAI fallback
On older devices, Recipe Folio can use OpenAI to format recipes. When this happens:
- Only the recognized text is sent — never the photo.
- The request goes directly from your phone to OpenAI using your own API key.
- We never see, store, or touch the data. It goes straight from your device to OpenAI.
- OpenAI's privacy policy applies to what they receive.
Third-party services
There aren't any. No analytics frameworks, no ad SDKs, no crash reporters. The app talks to your phone's local storage and, if you set it up, OpenAI's API. That's it.
Children
Since we don't collect data from anyone, we don't collect data from children either. There are no accounts, no personal information fields, and no way for us to identify any user of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here with a new date. Since we don't have your contact info (see above), we can't notify you directly.
